Shian is a second-year medical student and Health Justice Scholar at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. She and her family resettled in the United States when she was 6 years old, and Shian is now working towards becoming the first physician in her extended family.
Prior to starting medical school, Shian completed her senior thesis at Georgetown University on the long-term health of Kurdish refugees in the United States. She also advocated for Kurdish causes while interning at Congress and participated in a medical trip to her family’s hometown of Duhok.
During medical school, Shian led a novel three-part Environmental Justice Series which explored the inequitable impact of the environment on health. She is also currently spearheading the Kurdish American Medical Association’s initiative to translate and create formal CPR videos in Kurdish for the community to learn from.

Dr. Muhammad is a native Kurd who immigrated to America with her family as a small girl. Since then, she has lived in the Midwest where she completed an accelerated BA/MD program and went on to graduate in May 2020. She is currently a resident intern at Howard University Washington DC. Further, she is to complete her residency training in diagnostic radiology in Kansas City Missouri. She is passionate about mentorship and community inclusion. She is an active member of KAMA for about years, and most recently, took initiative on the KAMA annual newsletter.
Future plans include completing radiology residency and then after pursue fellowship in breast imaging. With this specified profession, future goal is to reach those in Kurdistan, and work towards structuring preventative screening of breast cancer widely accessible to Kurdistan region. Short term goals include, expanding KAMA to our community members and to keep our community engaged and educated. Pending projects include CPR translation to Kurdish and to publish this in the coming year.
